Gas Mask Canister with Straps
Original, unissued WWII German gas mask cansiters.
Most are dated 1944. These are the correct military issue model cans
(not Luftschutz or Polizei) issued to all units of the Wehrmacht and
Waffen SS throughout the War. Being 62 years old, these may have a
bit of surface rust or a ding from storage and shipping, but they
are very good to excellent condition. Original paint with postwar
straps.

German Gas Mask Can Strap Set
These replace worn or broken straps on all models of WW II Gas
Mask Canisters. These are actually late 1940's and 1950's German Army
issue, and are sold by most vendors as "original" WWII.
(The only difference between these and WWII straps is that these are
made from slightly thicker webbing, and are more durable. Originals
break easily.) Very good to excellent condition. This set includes
both straps.

German Gas Sheet Bag
Unissued, original bags. Not only were these unissued....they were
unfinished. We had to install the snaps. The correct Prym brand
fasteners were used, but these are stamped "original Prym"
(cute huh?) whereas WWII snaps have only "PRYM". Anyway,
the bags are in excellent, serviceable condition. All of them are
marked "Rate 44".
No idea if "Rate" is the company that made them or...?
$20.00
These bags were used to hold the gas sheet which was simply a piece
of impregnated fabric or thin rubber designed to be thrown over
the soldier to protect him from chemical attack. Sort of like a
body condom. (Some types of gas are absorbed through the skin, not
simply inhaled.) Original gas sheets themselves are very rare and
relatively expensive today. Most are fossilized and nearly impossible
to unfold. Although early in the War the bag was worn on the chest
(via the gas mask can strap), the soldiers soon began wearing them
on the canister. One or two equipment straps were used to hold them
on. ("Tornister" or Mess Tin straps will work for this purpose. There is no "correct" one.)
Gas Sheet Bags are one of the less interesting pieces of field gear,
but especially for guys who actually like to go to the field (lowly
cap-busters) these are very handy. How so? It acts as a pad to silence
the clanking of the canister hitting against the bayonet handle
and/ or mess tin. In lieu of a real gas sheet, I use a dishrag (a
towel- not a cheap hooker) to fill the bag and keep the canister
quiet. Due to the mass confusion this highly complex task has caused...here's a pretty picture to help illustrate the concept.

What's in the bag? Panties. Yes, really. What kind of straps are correct???
Any that will wrap around the can and hold the bag on.
