German Leather Combat Y-straps
Flat out, no BS, the best
reproduction WWII German Y-straps made. These were made specifically
for ATF, and the wait was well worth it. These are absolutely "original"
quality. A little wear, and they are 100% indistinguishable from authentic
WWII pieces. The hardware, the weight and color of the leather, and
the workmanship are without parallel. All hardware is custom made
from original samples, the straps are die cut (of course with dies
made off originals), and all components are hand stitched with linen
thread by highly skilled craftsmen, some of whom made gear during
WWII. (Yes, they are senior citizens.) Y-straps are dated "1943"
or "SS-RZM".
All Y-straps are now the same length. They should fit everyone, except
perhaps those who are midgets (aka little people) or Wookies.
Combat Y-straps: $75.00
SS-RZM Marked: $85.00
Lightweight Y-straps:
Although most re-enactors associate this model of Y-strap exclusively
with Fallschirmjäger units, that is not a historically accurate
picture. There are many photos showing Heer, Waffen SS and Polizei
units wearing these or variations of the lightweights. Most photos
are from the 1941-42 period in the East. Although their exact
intent or issuance is not known, it is apparent that numerous
units did use them.
Black or Brown? Fallschirmjäger purists insist that all
Luftwaffe units used brown leather gear. Welcome to The Land of
LaLa. It is very difficult to discern that color difference in
B&W photos. However, many color photos from the period, often
show Heer and SS troops with bits and pieces of brown gear. Also,
brown leather will eventually appear black (or very, very dark
brown) after enough exposure to oil, sweat, dirt and the elements.
The Wehrmacht was often in dire straits when in came to their
supply situation. Oberflieger Snuffy's wearing of black Y-straps
would have ranked relatively low in importance when his squad
was scrounging for food and scrambling to avoid the unwanted attentions
of the Typhoons and P47's prowling over their heads.... |

Lightweight "Fallschirmjäger"
Y-Straps, Brown
Same as above, but in natural brown color.
These are made correctly with the rough side out. This is not
a mistake. With use and time, it will smooth out.

"Tropical" Web Combat Y-Straps
Tan web version of the leather Y-straps, worn by DAK and many units
in Europe from 1942 on as an alternative to the leather straps (web
gear was intended to be "Ersatz" or replacement for leather
gear). The "improved" part is the fact that we now use
webbing that is 100% correct as original.
Sold Out
No estimate of restock date. Possibly not until 2010.
