Refurbished original WWII German M42 steel helmets. These are authentic WWII helmet shells that have been stripped and repainted with the correct shade of flat fieldgray- that we had matched to a mint original example. There is also a light texture that is a close match to the original aluminum oxide used in WWII. Finally, the finish is hardened in our paint oven.

They are then fitted with brand new liners and chinstraps from Europe. The attaching split pins and washers are also reproductions, copied from originals and marked "D&C".

The helmets in this listing are all shell size 68, which is the largest size typically encountered. ("68" is the inside circumference of the helmet in centimeters.) This size shell can take size 60 (US 7 1/2) or size 61 (US 7 3/8) liner. Choose the size in the dropdown box.

Notes:

Bigger size liners? Nope. These are larger shell sizes (70 and 72) but those are so rare that the bare shells cost $1500+.

Maker codes or batch numbers: We do not have these sorted by maker code and/ or batch number. Many of the stamps are very faint and difficult to read.

Are we sure they are original? Yes. We know the difference. All reproductions are slightly off when one measures them.

Blemishes are possible: If the possibility of a ding or dent ruins your day, get a nice new repro. These helmets are 80+ years old and all have seen use. Small dents, dings or other evidence of use is possible. All are in very good to excellent shape, but they were not stored in an airtight, foam rubber lined vault waiting for a discriminating enthusiast to beckon in the 21st Century. Likewise, there could be a scuff, small dribble or chip in the paint.
