Reproduction of the "overseas" caps worn by SS troops in WWII. These were made using our "Texled" patterns, that in turn were developed from original caps.
These are made from field gray wool of the correct weight and weave which allows the caps to fit well and form easily to one's head. The lining is the proper khaki/ gray cotton twill.
Matching colors? The caps do NOT match any of our wool uniforms perfectly. This is just like it was in WWII as caps, tunics and trousers were typically made in different factories.
Our caps have the correct profile, height (they're not as tall as toasters like many repros), and they have what collectors refer to as the "bead" or "false piping" along the sides of the center panel that was peculiar to the SS caps, a detail that was lacking on the caps of the same design worn by the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine troops.

Notes on originals:
It's not uncommon to find originals with a pin or a few stitches securing the center fold in the top. This gives the cap a more rakish look preferred by many troops.
These caps were manufactured throughout the War, in all shades of fieldgray, including "Italian" wool. Lining could be cotton twill or cotton shirting, and smooth or hbt rayon...or a combination. The black models for Panzer troops nearly always had black cotton or black rayon lining.
Insignia was nearly always hand sewn. Some troops added soutache with their Waffenfarbe, and others substituted a metal Totenkopf for the woven one.
Insignia is sold separately. It is very difficult now to have anyone make uniforms with naughty symbols on them, plus it seems to trigger extra scrutiny from US Customs as well. In the case of overseas caps, nearly all originals I have ever handled had hand-sewn "Bevo" insignia- this is actually the norm for this type of cap.
