Marine Corps Insignia
Marines did not wear nearly as much insignia as the Army- and it was rarely seen on field uniforms. Divisional patches and service stripes were restricted to the forest green wool service uniform, and khaki rank chevrons were used on Summer Service Uniforms.
For green "Utilities", rank was typically applied with black ink and a stencil (if at all), and divisional patches can be seen on a handful of field jackets (M41). No insignia is most typical.
Fighting the Japanese dangerous enough. Doing it with brightly colored patches on your sleeves was suicidal.
