Product Description
Detail
ATF medic vest
Compared to the original
A slightly different pattern in 1945
Reproduction of the WWII identification vests worn by some German medics. These were made using a variety of patterns, construction styles and materials. Period photos exist of them being worn by Heer and Luftwaffe troops- I haven't seen any of Waffen SS wearing them.
I acquired an authentic example are we used it as a pattern. Luckily, the cotton muslin used for the white panels was identical to several rolls we already had on hand. Likewise, we had original white HBT tape for the border reinforcements and ties. The red crosses are made from cotton poplin and constructed like the original. These were were able to make here in the shop so they are Made in USA.
Note!
The HBT tape used on these is 80 years old and much of it has some small brownish stains on it. Some are just visible on the strap at right in the main photo of the vest. These really look original.
Markings?
I looked at various originals and none show any maker marks or dates. Two had Wk. V. Ulm, but that's a property mark for a Wehrkreis (Military District) which I count as a property or unit mark. So, these are unmarked.
