Product Description

The final pattern of the winter trousers were no longer reversible to white. Although the concept of reversible uniforms seemed brilliant, in practice the white side on the winter uniforms quickly soiled and proved difficult if not impossible to clean in the field. The intent was to return to using snow camo overwhites, which could simply be discarded once their camouflage value had been compromised by filth. Non-reversible winter uniforms are made in Splinter, Gray, Marsh 43 and Marsh 44.

These uniforms are the same design as the reversible models, aside from having a simple rayon lining rather than being reversible.

Marsh pattern: The camouflage variant used on these reproductions is what collectors have christened Marsh 43 (Sumpftarnmuster 43), sometimes still referred to as "Tan and Water" pattern as well. There is also "Marsh 44", which differs only in that borders of the brown and green blocks lack any hard edges- they are entirely stippled. Both patterns were in common use in 1944-45 and some original garments exist with parts made from both patterns mixed together. There is ZERO meaning to the patterns when it comes to which unit(s) wore which. It was simply manufacturing variations and adjustments.

ATF Winter Uniforms
These garments are not related in anyway to our previous productions- they share zero DNA with those or any other company's products.
The Germans developed a special rayon fabric for use with these winter uniforms, the specs of which were detailed in the Richardson Report from July 1945. We had that copied exactly using both the document as well as authentic fabric samples.

For those familiar with original parkas, they have a particular feel- thin, soft but not exactly silky. These have that same feel- same yarn size, same weave, same thread count and so forth. Like the originals it has a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment. The buttons, pull cords and waist band are copied from originals.

The lining is now the heaviest polar fleece available- 400 grams per meter which is equal in weight to the Reißwolle used in originals. This is almost twice the weight as what was used on our previous uniforms. The WWII garments used an extremely variable blend of recycled wool, rayon and cotton which could only be reproduced in a high quantity which would raise the price substantially. The fleece weighs and feels the same and has equivalent or superior thermal qualities. The only way to tell would be to cut one of our garments open and compare or test the lining.

The garment patterns were made directly from my original examples. These are a roomy, loose fitting jacket made large enough to wear multiple layers underneath. The hood is large enough to wear over a cap or helmet.
Reproduction of the reversible WWII German Winter Parkas. The Marsh model parkas appeared in the winter of 1944-45 and were widely issued throughout the German Army and some Luftwaffe units. These parkas reverse from "Marsh 43" camouflage to white.

The shell fabric is 100% rayon, and the lining is the heaviest polar fleece which available (400 gsm) which has the same weight and feel as the Reiwolle (recycled wool) lining of the originals- while also being slightly warmer, less prone to shrinkage, and 1/2 the cost. These trousers feature pebbled buttons, ankle ties, waist tie, overlapping fly, and detachable suspenders.

Water Repellent: The shell fabric used on all the reversible Winter garments has been treated with Teflon, a durable water repellent finish. This allows the fabric to shed freezing rain and drizzle quite well, as well as making it resistant to staining.

Does it make the fabric stiff? Not at all. The coating is not visible, but it does make the fabric feel slightly softer.

Is it safe? Yes. The finish is PFOA & PFOS free, bluesign approved, and certified as free of harmful chemicals by the EPA, EU, and other regulatory agencies. It's not the same stuff that's flaking off of your skillet.

Fit: These are sized like the originals- LARGE. This uniform was designed with extra room for several layers of clothing to be worn underneath.

Washing: The best option is to hand wash these in cold water. Shrinkage will be about 2" for the inseam length. They take about 24 hours to dry when hung over a boot dryer.

We do not recommend using a clothes dryer! We tested this and it increases the shrinkage and it seems to cause the insulation to shift inside. However, the insulation will eventually settle back into place with continued wear....but avoid dryers.

Suspenders included.

Imported.

Sizing Notes:
1. We copied the original sizing system exactly. The Germans designed these to be worn over several layers of clothing, and thus they are already oversized to allow for this.
2. These are designed to be worn higher than most trousers in order to insulate the body. The top will ride above the navel. If you have a large belly, measure around your middle rather than using your trouser waist size.
3. All inseams are 28". (Same as originals.)
