Product Description
We finish these tan on the inside. (The
interiors on originals can be found
like this or in primer.)
How close to WWII are these?
Here's one of each.
Well?
A: Original is on the right in
all 3 photos.
Refurbished MG34/42
Gurttrommel
magazines.
These drums were made by Yugoslavia for their copy of the MG42 (M53) and are identical to the WWII models (their parts interchange) save for the lack of German codes or dates.
We select the best condition drums which we check and disassemble, then remove the lovely cosmoline grease and strip off the slime green paint. It's a really, really good time.
After they're cleaned up, we spray them with the proper shade of
Dunkelgelb
. After they dry we put them in the paint oven for an hour to cure the finish. Finally we add the small directional arrow inside.
Note!
Some evidence of past use is likely such a minor dings, scrapes or whatnot. We do check to be sure each one latches on and off of an MG.
Paint:
We use industrial acrylic enamels and urethanes that are custom mixed to match WWII samples. These are painted and then hardened in a paint oven for maximum durability. Note that a few nicks in the paint are possible from where we have test fitted these on an MG.
How are they to use?
They work fine, and it can be nice not to have to check the belt for grass and twigs that can cause a malfunction. That said, if one wants to carry 300rds., one ammo can beats 6 drums, so there are trade offs.
