Product Description

Top of the line reproduction magazine pouches for WWII German MP38 and MP40 SMG's. These are unique to ATF- assembled with EU made linen canvas and leather, patterned directly from the original examples in the photos. These pouches are the closest to originals bar none. Even the ones made to fool in the EU don't come close.

This is the tan canvas variant made by Ernst Melzig Lederwaren in Liegnizt, (in East Prussia, now Poland) whose maker code was "clg." I have several original examples to go by and we adhered to them down to the number of stitches on the straps.

The fabric was custom woven for us in 2012 by a Belgian firm that made it since the 1800's- and in WWII. The leather also comes form Belgium, and is the best quality we've ever found. Their standards are higher than those in our hemisphere and the resulting product looks very much like what one sees on originals.

We dye and treat the leather, strap cut all the parts, then die cut the canvas parts on our hydraulic press, pre-assemble the studs, then send everything overseas to have the leather parts correctly hand sewn. This is the last batch as we can no longer get the fabric.

Why not sew them in the USA? Cost and carpal tunnel. The leather parts on these (as well as nearly all WWII German gear) are saddle stitched by hand, which requires 4+ hours per pair to do.
Yes, it can be done by machine, but that's still very time consuming, looks like shit and doesn't hold up very well.
Yes, you can tell hand from machine stitching on leather.

Do they look original? See the comparison photos.

Note: Originals of this type use both black and brown stud discs- occasionally one finds a pouch with both colors.
